BLACK LIGHT EXPLORATION. Collect rocks and plant material from your yard or during your next walk. Place your collection under a blacklight. What happens? Chlorophyll in plants glows a deep red. Rocks & minerals that have fluorescent properties will glow under a blacklight. Fluorescent rocks include fluorite, calcite, gypsum, ruby, talc, opal, agate, quartz, and amber. What else fluoresces in your house? Try Lego™ parts, a ripe banana with brown spots, Vaseline™, white paper, a $20 bill. What else could you test with a black light?
